Constitution of the Geolinguistic Society of Japan [PDF]

1. The name of the Society shall be the Geolinguistic Society of Japan.

2. The purpose of the Society is to promote research in geolinguistics and related fields in the languages of the world, and to facilitate communication among researchers.

3. The activities of the Society are (1) to hold an annual conference in Japan, (2) to publish an electronic publication (an annual periodical and monographs), (3) Publication and maintenance of databases and useful materials on a website, (4) Organization of occasional research meetings such as lectures and seminars, and (5) Others.

4. The Society does not adopt a membership system, but is open to a wide range of researchers and graduate students from Japan and abroad who are interested in the activities of the Society.

5. The Society shall have a board of the executive committee consisting of ten persons residing in Japan. The term of the committee members shall be 4 years, and half of them shall be elected every 2 years. The executive committee selects its members for the subsequent term. No representative can be reappointed for two consecutive terms.

6. To manage the Society's five administrative areas (general affairs, meetings, editorials, website and auditing), the ten members of the management committee are divided into five groups of two, with each pair assigned one area to take responsibility for. Of each pair, one serves as the coordinator and the other serves as an assistant. An assistant shall take over the role of coordinator at the next election. The general affairs coordinator shall be the representative of the Society.

7. Expenses are covered by (1) participation fees for annual conferences, lectures, and other research meetings, and (2) donations, and other sources.

8. Separate committees shall be established as necessary. The bylaws of such committees shall be stipulated separately.
